EASY, Simple 4th of July Dessert *Crowd Pleaser*

Patriotic Trifle Recipe

A trifle always makes a BIG impact at the end of a meal with its flavorful and textured layers of cake, berries and filling. Not to mention they’re super simple to make, especially if you start with a store bought cake — which is perfect when you need a last minute dessert for a holiday get together.

Here is what you will Need:

Trifles are endlessly customizable, but for a last minute dessert buy:

  • Simple store bought pound cake
  • blueberries
  • raspberries
  • homemade whipped cream (heavy whipping cream, vanilla, powered sugar)
  • Ball 8-oz. quilted jelly jars for the perfect individual serving size

Slice the cake into pieces that are about 1 inch thick, and then use round cookie cutters to cut the cake into rounds. You will need a slightly smaller size for the bottom layer than the top since the jars are tapered. Start with a cake layer on the bottom, layer your berries and whipped cream to create a red, white and blue effect. Top with another cake round and a dollop of whipped cream. Garnish with extra berries if desired.

Fingerprint Reindeer and Handprint Snowman Ornaments

I saw this fun, kid friendly Christmas ornament craft on-line and decided to try it out myself. My kids are going to love making these keepsake ornaments!

I found both crafts on the Little Bit Funky blog. I actually wanted to use blue or green colored Christmas balls but had a hard time even finding plain ones so I took what I could get. I went to 5 different stores and sadly I did not find what I really wanted so I went back to the 1st store (isn’t that always how it goes) and bought the gold undecorated plastic Christmas balls. I wanted plastic because my 2 yr old is going to be doing this craft along with my 5 and 8 yr old.

Little Bit Funky has great tutorials on both:
